Women’s safety is a pressing issue in India, having roots from multiple different reasons throughout the society, from infancy to death, a women has to walk on eggshells in india, why? why is it that in india, a country with a 77.7% literacy rate, a woman has to think twice about entering any space?

Current Challenges

High Rates of Violence- india records almost 51 cases every hour for violence against women

    • Domestic violence
    • Sexual harassment
    • Assaults and rape
whether it is domestic violence, sexual harassment, or rape, india records a staggering amount of cases, even when multiple cases are left unregistered.

Societal Attitudes

    • Gender discrimination
    • Victim-blaming culture
    • Stigmatization of survivors
what's the first question a woman is asked after being assaulted? it is typically a "what were you wearing?"
as if it can justify it. people say "she's someone's mother, daughter, or sister or wife" but she does not need a relationship to anyone to be considered a valid human, she has her own identity which should be respected and celebrated.

Inadequate Legal Action

  • slow response time from police
  • insufficient training on handling gender based violence cases
  • lack of accountability and corruption
criminals of any crime are often let go with a slap on their wrist, this continues on to assault and violence cases aswell. the victim suffers while the culprit is given sympathy for having their 'bright future' ruined.

this is just the tip of the iceberg, safety of women in india is an increasing issue which grows by the hour. maybe it starts from the internal misogyny, maybe from the patriarchy, there are a bunch of reasons leading up to this. but a woman deserves to be heard, and respected like any other person
